Cerro Punta with Dennis and Deanna

This week we had the pleasure of a visit from our friends Deanna and Dennis Sanford who live in Dallas, Texas. Today we took them up to Cerro Punta which is the vegetable growing area.  We stopped by the area where the Quetzals can be seen and took a little walk trying to catch a glimpse of some birds.  

I loved this picture of the workers hoeing in a potato field.  These men are usually native Indians and are the ones who will do all of the grunt work for not a lot of money.  It is back breaking work but they don't seem to mind.

We didn't see any Quetzals as it was too late in the day and too late in the year but we did see lots of humming birds.  This little sweetie was either a female Purple-throated Mountain Gem or a White-throated Mountain Gem.  I am suspecting white as the male that was near her was a white throated.  The males have either a purple throat or a white throat but the females are all rufous colored.

This is a young male but I believe he is a White Throated Mountain Gem.  They were very busy and very cute but mercifully they did stop long enough to pose for us.
