Mount Totumas

Harry and I wanted a little get away that wouldn't involve selling the family farm.  We had heard a lot about Mt Totumas and decided that this was the place we wanted to go.  It is up high in the mountains bordering on the Amistad National Park.  Maps showed many hiking trails with the promise of seeing various birds and assorted wildlife.

The drive itself was a bit of an adventure.  You need a 4 wheel drive, which we had.  The turnoff was only about a 45 min drive from our house up the mountain but it took us over 2 hours to make the next 10 km.

On some of the steep slippery parts there were 2 cement tracks.  This does not look steep but believe me it was.

Another part of the adventure were not one but 2 river crossings.  The first one was pretty tame but the second had us a bit worried as it had recently rained and the river was fairly swift.

The road wound steeply up the hill sides.

 We were rewarded at the end though with the spectacular views over the valleys
