Laughing Falcon

We saw a really cool bird today out at the house. Harry the "I'm not interested in birds" guy, as usual, was first to spot him. He was very noisy and not at all inconspicuous. The problem with getting a good picture is that we were shooting into the sun and he basically looked dark. When we got the pictures onto the computer and tweaked them we could make out his markings. It turns out he is called a Laughing Falcon and with good reason. He sounded a bit like a maniac laughing. They are 18-22 inches in size so he was pretty hard to miss. My bird book says that he is apparently not all that common so that was cool. We have really noticed that there are some beautiful song birds out in this area. I can hardly wait to have a landscaped yard and flowers with a water feature to attract the birds.
