Top Rail for Balustrades

Abigail came over last night, after having worked all day, to pour the cement for the top rail of the concrete balustrades.  He had to do this job himself because he didn't trust anyone else to do it correctly.  First he started by putting a section of 6" tubing in the spaces between the balustrades.  Then if the space was not exactly 3 1/4" he would undo the wire holding the piece of steel in place, reposition it and then tighten the wire again.   

He then installed a board on each side held it in place with his newly manufactured steel clamps. The whole thing was leveled using his trusty water level (this is a long 50' tube with water in it) he leveled it with his mark on the far end.  That way he makes sure that the whole thing is the exact right height.  Following that he put a long screw through the wood underneath each of the plastic arches to keep them from falling with the weight of the concrete.  The last step was to fill the voids with concrete.  I'll take more pictures tomorrow when the forms come off.

Here is the equipment used to manufacture some more clamps...The whole thing was a most amazing and creative process!
