Just a quick note to tell you that we saw both a pair of Laughing Falcons and the Firery Billed Aricari again flying overhead. The night watchman who lives near us tells us that they are both nesting nearby. The Aricaris are across the road near the river and the falcons are in a big tree in the neighours pasture. The locals call the Laughing Falcon a Cau (pronounced cow). The night watchman is very knowledgable about the local flora and fauna.
We saw the birds at dusk when we went to the house near sunset to determine the amount of sun coming into the house at that hour. It turns out there is very little as the neighbours trees filter it. This is good as the bricks will not be warming up and radiating the heat into the house. We are very pleased with how cool the house is. Anyhow we had bought a pellet gun incase there are vermin (ie. snakes) that we would like to dispose of. As the sun was setting we played with the gun sighting it in. It is a great little gun and I could hit the target dead on at about 25 feet. The night watchman was there and had never shot a gun before. He took a few shots that were all over the place and finally we got it through to him how to sight it onto the target and he finally came close. Both night watchmen were very happy getting to shoot a gun. It was fun.
