When we got here the floor had been tiled but the island had not been built. He prefers to tile the floor and then build the island on it because it makes the tile job on the floor neater where it comes up to the island. This is a picture from yesterday but again you can see the plumbing for the sink sticking up through the floor. The other little black dot is the electrical.
So here is the rough shape of the island . I decided to round it off on the ends and when the
repayo is done it will be smooth like the walls. Below is a side shot of it. It looks really rough but that is done intentionally so that there are lots of crooks and crannies for the repayo to stick to.
They slapped together the funniest forms. The grey pipe you see is a piece of PVC for running the electrical wires. They put a
piece of drywall to form this end of the island for lack of a board and then stuck a nail into it and into the board on the floor. Then they stuck the nail into the PVC on each end to make it tight and hold it in place. You can see the ring for the sink which is made out of that
particle board stuff that they use on the back of a piece of cheap furniture. They also used this to form up the top edge but had taken it apart in this picture.
You can see they left the back open for drawers but this was taken before they took the form off. They found a piece of something that they used for a form to pour the concrete on. Abigail
criss-crossed a bunch of
rebar on top of it so I now have a counter top. Remember these pictures because when it is all finished you will be in disbelief that it is the same structure. This is how all construction here starts. Also note the pipes for the plumbing and then the electrical tube running up for the
plugin on the outside.
Below is a closeup of the poured top and the sink hole before the forms were removed. This will be a little vegetable preparation sink and will have a
garburator in it.
