Second Problem - Ditch

This will be my last post regarding the status of the development for awhile. All in all it is pretty good but we have had another problem surface. The ditches here were done in 2 batches by 2 different contractors. Fortunately the first batch was really quite well executed but unfortunately the second batch was substandard. Like I said in a previous post 95% of the water from the development drains down the ditch that passes beside our house. Across the road is a ditch that carries only about 5% of the total water load. That is the ditch that you can see rounding the corner in the photo below.

The one contractor stopped at this corner and the other took over. From the point that the second contractor took over the ditch has eroded to the point that it really should be redone again. There are holes in every section right down to the public roadway at the end.


The pictures above are of the worst section but if left another season there will just be a big crater here. The crater that formed in another section that was left unfinished was about 5 feet deep after 2 rainy seasons. As you can see this is a serious problem. I spoke with Abagail our builder and explained that we really had no money in the coffers to rectify this problem correctly and he said that he could put just a triangle of concrete in the bottom which would hold it off a couple of years he hoped. That is probably what we are going to have to do for the time being.
