So here is the 'dirt' on how to start plants in Panama. At the beginning of the rainy season (which is now) after all danger of frost is past and when the plants are growing profusely again and in need of pruning, you take the cuttings and place them in little containers of soil. In my case, I am using pop bottles collected off of the beach. You punch holes in the bottom for drainage and set them out in the open. Then you place the 'sticks' in the bottles, one or two to a container and leave them out to fend for themselves until the dry season (December). By this time you should have some well rooted, vigorous little plants which can then be placed in the ground. It is also possible, if you know where you would like them to be put, to place the sticks straight into the ground with the same results. My planters are serving as a container to hold them upright and protect the little plants. There are 86 bottles in the planter. Oh that starting plants should be this easy in Canada. Oh, and about the frost, I'm kidding of course!
